Utopian launch Rainbock lager and charity partnership with Devon Community Foundation

Today, we are delighted to announce the launch of our limited edition Rainbock Lager. One pound of revenue from every can sold will go to the Devon Community Foundation Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund as we strive to work together with our local community during this challenging time.

Rainbock has been styled on the classic German Mai-bock, but just like all of Utopian’s lagers is brewed with 100% British grown ingredients.  This is done not just to showcase the excellent work of British maltsters and hop growers but also to reduce the food miles in the beer in line with our sustainability ambitions & green credentials.

Brewed in the depths of winter Rainbock was created using classical decoction mashing techniques to develop the deep malt characters of the lager malts.  The environmentally friendly Boadicea hop was then added to provide subtle bitterness to balance the sweetness and to add subtle light floral and spicy undertones.  Naturally carbonated during fermentation to create a soft mouth feel, the beer has then been cold conditioned at near freezing temperatures for 10 weeks to fully develop the body and flavours.

Rainbock is a celebration of Spring, the new beginnings and hope it ushers in much like the appearance of a Rainbow after a storm

Richard Archer, co-founder and Managing Director at Utopian said, “Jeremy and the brewery team have done an exceptional job with Rainbock and we are all extremely proud of a beer that we think is both a strong representation of the Mai Bock style whilst also being a great homage to British growers.   We are equally honoured to be able to use proceeds from the beer sales to support the outstanding work of Devon Community Foundation (DCF) Response and Recovery Fund.” Richard went on to say “Last year, as a start-up business, we depended heavily on the support of local communities across Devon to sell and buy our beer. They supported us tremendously and now they need  our help and so we are delighted to have teamed up with DCF who are providing vital help to those in our communities most in need now and also in the longer term through the recovery phase.

Devon Community Foundation :

Established in 1996, Devon Community Foundation is a unique organisation, privileged to be working alongside people who are motivated by wanting to make a difference across Devon. Through the Devon Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund, they are supporting local charities and community organisations across Devon in two stages: response, then recovery. In the response stage, they will get extra money to organisations that they know are supporting vulnerable groups affected by the coronavirus outbreak.  In the recovery stage, they will fund a wider group of local charities and community organisations whose operations and finances have been affected so they can recover and continue their activities once the outbreak eases.
